The Tactical Planner (TP) ensures supply readiness, optimal usage of resource and capacity under
consideration of optimal inventory levels.
The TP transposes demand into production strategy and planning at portfolio level on the mid to long
term view for internal and external packaging at GCS.
Has operational end to end responsibility for assigned activity. Leads and manages all project and
local network activities and participates in cross-functional teams.

About the Role

Major accountabilities:

  • Enables the strategic decision on study level in terms of packaging locations and distribution models.

  • Covers the mid to long-term planning horizon and is responsible for supply review on aggregated portfolio level.

  • Oversees entire GCS portfolio planning in all packaging locations.

  • Translates supply plan from SCM into production plan on an 18-month rolling forecast horizon.

  • Ensures operational feasibility of the production plan on short term horizon in alignment with relevant GCS roles (including handover process)

  • Implements master production scheduling including relevant material master data and manages related change processes.

  • Creates Rough Cut Capacity Resources planning for headcount and equipment.

  • Contributes to the CS&OP ensuring adherence to monthly planning cycle.

  • Covers CFG-PP planning and ensures all independent demand is reflected in SAP.

  • Works with relevant role responsible for Production Master Data to create dependent demand on DP/PP and pack material level.

  • Identifies and mitigates potential capacity and technical risks, with appropriate escalation and communication.

  • Collaborate with relevant GCS roles to ensure harmonized packaging design, adequate material and capacity availability.

  • Proactively communicate key issues and any critical topic in a timely manner to the appropriate management level and to/or any other relevant project team members. Interpret results, evaluate data, draw conclusions and report back to team and management.

  • Give guidance to team members. Provide coaching and technical training as subject matter expert or recognized technical expert. Act as mentor for junior and senior associates

Ideal Background Education (minimum/desirable):

  • Degree in science, engineering or equivalent.

  • Languages: Fluent in English Experience/Professional requirement:

  • 1. >5 years of practical experience in chemical / pharmaceutical industry or > 3 years of experience in field of expertise

  • 2. Good expertise in related field.

  • 3. Good knowledge about the Drug Development process

  • 4. Basic project management, good organization and planning skills

  • 5. Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g. GMP, HSE etc.) and Novartis specific standards.

  • 6. Demonstrates problem-solving and idea generation skills.

  • 7. Good presentation skills

  • 8. Fundamental Leadership skills.

  • 9. Very good communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
