About the Role

The Insights and Decision Science (IDS) team is dedicated to enabling improved decision making at Novartis by leveraging superior data to identify actionable insights that drive enhanced performance. We collaborate closely with the US business, challenging data and ideas to empower smarter, data-driven decision-making. Reporting into Executive Director of AI and Innovation Product Strategy, the AI Use Case Lead is crucial in driving innovation and transformation in pharma by harnessing the power of artificial intelligence.  

 

The AI Use Case Lead serves as an AI product owner and a catalyst for change, bridging the gap between technical expertise and business acumen. Through collaboration with diverse teams across research, development, manufacturing, and commercial sectors, the AI Use Case Lead ensures that AI initiatives are strategically aligned with organizational goals and deliver tangible value. The individual will lead the ideation and execution of AI projects, from concept to implementation, ensuring that solutions are scalable, compliant, and tailored to meet the unique needs of the company.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • As an agile product owner, lead the ideation of new AI-based products or solutions, bringing innovative ideas into tangible, market-ready offerings  
  • Evaluate the feasibility of use cases based on data quality, and organizational readiness 
  • Create a detailed plan for the AI use case lifecycle, from ideation to pilot 
  • Lead new AI use cases through stage gates (e.g., initial intake, proof-of-concept approval, minimum viable product approval, full scale build out) 
  • Work with departments such as marketing, customer engagement, market access, patient support and medical affairs to understand their pain points and requirements 
  • Work with AI teams to design scalable, compliant, and effective AI solutions tailored to the use case 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to set priorities and manage the product lifecycle 
  • Serve as a bridge between technical teams (data scientists, engineers) and business teams, ensuring clear communication and understanding 
  • Advocate for AI adoption and helping stakeholders adapt to new tools and processes 
  • Define and pressure-test value cases, and structure sprints to begin development of new product ideas 
  • Support the business case development for wider adoption of AI technology by capturing success stories and key business metrics during pilot and collaborate with other teams to drive broader adoption 

 
Experience

 

Novartis seeks individual with extensive experience in leading AI-driven innovation projects from conception to market deployment. A proven track record of successfully evaluating and implementing AI use cases, demonstrating a deep understanding of data quality, availability, and organizational readiness is required. The candidate should excel in bridging the gap between technical and business teams, fostering clear communication and understanding, while advocating for AI adoption and facilitating stakeholder adaptation to new technologies.  

 

Essential Requirements:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in tech development in the pharma industry 
  • A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. Advanced degrees (Master's or Ph.D.) are preferred 
  • Experience in managing complex projects, including planning, execution, and delivery, with a focus on AI or technology-driven projects 
  • Ability to balance stakeholder interests with project goals, ensuring successful AI implementation and adoption 
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, IT, and business units, to drive AI initiatives 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders 
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements 
  • Understanding of prototype development process 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to guide and motivate teams, manage conflicts, and drive change 
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance issues related to AI in the pharmaceutical industry 

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between: $185,500.00 and $344,500.00 a year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
